Real Estate Victories: Celebrating with Affordable, Yet Elegant Sparkling Wines

Real Estate Victories: Celebrating with Affordable, Yet Elegant Sparkling Wines

WRITTEN BY LEAH EIDE

Having grown up in the suburbs of Minneapolis, dominated by large-scale wine retailers, there's something inherently charming and delightful about stepping into a small independent wine shop.  These unique gems are more than just places to purchase wine; they're portals to a world of unique flavors, personalized service, and a celebration of community. In Vermont, we are grateful to have plenty of options: Wilder Wines, The Village Wine Shop, Dedalus, Cheese and Wine Traders, Salt and Bubbles, Cork; but one such place rises to the top…Standing Stone Wines.

A recently opened wine bar and retail space, owner and wine expert, Lily Sickles, has over 25 years’ experience purchasing, selling, and educating about wine. She focuses on making wine not only fun, but affordable, providing high quality wines at price points approachable for the average imbiber.  Of course, she also stocks a well-curated selection of higher-end wines for those special occasions.

As a Realtor with an extensive background in customer service and hospitality, including sommelier training, I often enjoy the ritual of sharing a good bottle of wine with clients and colleagues. Whether buying your first home or cashing in on the investment of a previous home, there is an unmistakable joy of celebrating a momentous chapter in real estate with a memorable bottle of sparkling wine.

Contrary to popular belief, you don't need to break the bank to enjoy a celebratory bottle of bubbly.  Besides, we all know how expensive buying a home can be, save your hard-earned money for those unexpected home improvement costs instead! In this blog post, we'll explore some affordable but celebratory sparkling wines that will have you toasting in style without emptying your wallet. We headed to Standing Stone Wines to pick out some good ones…

1. Prosecco - Italy's Effervescent Elegance

When it comes to budget-friendly bubbles, Prosecco is a well-known classic. Hailing from the Veneto region in Italy, Prosecco is known for its crisp and refreshing taste with notes of green apple and pear.  Standing Stone carries several producers, but a personal favorite, Alice Doro Nature, boasts a perfect balance of quality and affordability, making this wine ideal for casual celebrations or a spontaneous toast with friends.

2. Cava - Spain's Hidden Gem

For those seeking a sparkling wine with a touch of Spanish flair, look no further than Cava. Crafted using the traditional method, Cava delivers a fine mousse and complex flavors at a fraction of the cost of its French counterparts.  Explore the world of Cava from producers like Avinyo, which stay true to the blend of traditional Spanish grape varietals, Parellada, Macabeo and Xarel-lo.

3. Crémant - French Elegance on a Budget

If you're longing for the sophistication of French Champagne but don't want to splurge, Crémant is your answer.  Produced in various regions across France, Crémant adheres to the traditional method, creating a sparkling wine with finesse and complexity.  Look for Crémant from regions such as Alsace, Burgundy, or the Loire Valley for affordable alternatives to Champagne without compromising on taste.  For a fun sparkling rose, Standing Stone carries Domaine Allimant-Laugner, a Cremant D’Alsace, a sparkling wine made entirely of Pinot Noir grapes.

4. California Sparklers - Effortless Glamour

The sun-soaked vineyards of California produce more than just fantastic still wines. The state's winemakers have mastered the art of crafting affordable yet glamorous sparkling wines.  Standing Stone carries Angels and Cowboys, not just a fun name, but a beautiful blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, reminiscent of Champagne, but a fraction of the cost.

5. Champagne – The Real Deal

For those desiring a classic celebratory experience, Champagne will undoubtedly be your best bet. Produced in the Méthode Traditionnelle style, this meticulous technique consists of a second fermentation inside the bottle producing small, fine bubbles and a creamy mouthfeel.  Historically, bottles were hand rotated in large riding racks over the course of many weeks creating a labor intensive process but ensuring the highest quality product.

Although producers such as Dom Perignon, have certainly made a name for themselves, you’re also paying for just that, the name.  Instead, reach for a bottle of Champagne Mandois at Standing Stone, an affordable, yet classic option.  Of course, if you do want to splurge a bit, Standing Stone also carries a nicely curated rack of top tier Champagnes, all under $100.

With these affordable yet delightful options, you can add a touch of sparkle to all of your upcoming celebrations. Obviously, there are many moments in life to celebrate, but we hope to be a part of your next Real Estate milestone and cheers with you to your new home!
